Class Outline
The one day course uses lecture and graphic exercises to cover ARE 4.0 format. Candidates with all levels of experience are welcome – for those who just opened the books or for those who tried and failed the exam. Covered areas:
- General test requirements
- Available study materials
- NCARB software tools
- Code issues
- Design considerations
- Winning strategies
- Passing and failing solutions
- Time saving techniques
- Interior Layout Computer or Paper & Pencil Mock Exam
- Building Layout Computer or Paper & Pencil Mock Exam
- Individual evaluation of each solution to point out areas that might present problems on the actual exam
How to Prepare
Review of “Schematic Design Tools” (ARE 4.0) in NCARB software prior to the workshop will be useful. You can download NCARB practice software following this link http://www.ncarb.org/ARE/Preparing-for-the-ARE.aspx
Mock Exam in Class
In class students will have a choice to do Computer or Paper & Pencil Mock Exams.
If student chooses to do Paper & Pencil Mock Exam, he/she should bring pencil and tracing paper in class.
If student chooses to do Computer Mock Exam, she/he should preload NCARB software on their laptop. In addition, student needs customized files. The files can be uploaded to student’s laptops during the class break via USB port, or students can download files at AspiringArchitects.org website 1-2 days prior to the class and replace them on their laptops. Deadline for submitting solutions done after the class is Ocotober 1st.
