Class Outline
The one day course uses lecture and graphic exercises to cover ARE 4.0 Scematic Desing. Candidates with all levels of experience are welcome – those who just opened the books or those who tried and failed the exam. Covered areas:

  • General test requirements and Available study materials
  • NCARB software tools
  • Code issues
  • Design considerations
  • Winning strategies
  • Passing and failing solutions
  • Time saving techniques
  • Demonstration

Computer Mock Exam (optional)

  • Interior Layout (45 minute problem)
  • Building Layout (1.5 hour problem)

How to prepare
Review of “Schematic Design Tools” (ARE 4.0) in NCARB software prior to the workshop will be useful. You can download NCARB practice software following this link http://www.ncarb.org/are/40/StudyAids.html

About the instructor
Tatjana Polyakova is a registered Architect in the State of California and certified LEED professional. She teaches ARE Building Planning and Building Technology seminars in San Francisco since 2004.Tatjana received her Masters of Architecture from Novosibirsk State Architectural Academy in Russia. She won two national architectural competitions for sustainable single family housing in her home country. In 1998 Tatjana moved to North California where she teaches in colledges now.
