How to replace default NCARB practice problems with Alternative

Each graphic vignette in NCARB software has number of files, two of these files can be replaced
in order to practice with alternative layouts and programs
these files are:
.dwg – background image
.aut – top left menu

Please follow the steps below that will guide you on how to do it.

1.) Find location of the NCARB graphic files on your computer. You can simply do a search on your computer for those files:

(notice that files names are not case sensitive)

2.) Save NCARB graphic files in a separate folder so that you can reuse them later
3.) Download alternative practice problems from AspiringArchitects website

Alternative practice problems are located in ARE STUDY GROUP menu
4.) Overwrite default NCARB files with downloaded files
5.) Start NCARB software with new files

Sometimes you may have an error message when you start the software. Keep clicking OK, it may take a few times. In case you still can not start the software, go back to the folder where vignette files are located and delete file with extension .sol
You have left some elements in the background and they are stored in this file. You may delete it because NCARB software creates them every time new when you start it.
